چکیده

The main result of this paper is the derivation of the probability density function of the cross ratio k a b c d c a d b d a c b when the numbers a, b, c and d are independent stochastic variables with identical rectangular distribution. The probability density function of the cross ratio is needed to study the effectiveness of invariant based recognition systems. A short background into invariant based recognition is given. The use of the result is illustrated by examples and a short comment is given on generalizing the result to other distributions on a, b, c and d. Although theoretical, this result is useful in understanding algorithms based on the cross ratio, e.g. in autonomous vehicle navigation, object recognition and reconstruction from images.

Distributions of the Ratios of Independent Kumaraswamy Variables and System Reliability Applications

‎In this article‎, ‎first of all‎, ‎the Kumaraswamy distribution is introduced‎. ‎Then‎, ‎the joint and marginal distributions of W = X1/X2 and T = X1/X1+X2 where X1 and X2 are independent Kumaraswamy random variables‎, ‎are obtained and the moments of these random variables are computed‎. ‎The distribution of random variables  W  and T  can be used in reliability studies and statistical models...

Application of Random Matrix Theory to Study Cross-correlations of Stock Prices

We address the question of how to precisely identify correlated behavior between different firms in the economy by applying methods of random matrix theory (RMT). Specifically, we use methods of random matrix theory to analyze the cross-correlation matrix C of price changes of the largest 1000 US stocks for the 2-year period 1994–1995. We find that the statistics of most of the eigenvalues in t...

Estimating adjusted prevalence ratio in clustered cross-sectional epidemiological data

BACKGROUND Many epidemiologic studies report the odds ratio as a measure of association for cross-sectional studies with common outcomes. In such cases, the prevalence ratios may not be inferred from the estimated odds ratios. This paper overviews the most commonly used procedures to obtain adjusted prevalence ratios and extends the discussion to the analysis of clustered cross-sectional studie...

Estimating 3D-Position of A Stationary Random Acoustic Source Using Bispectral Analysis of 4-Point Detected Signals

To develop the useful acoustic environmental recognition system, the method of estimating 3D-position of a stationary random acoustic source using bispectral analysis of 4-point detected signals is proposed. The method uses information about amplitude attenuation and propagation delay extracted from amplitude ratios and angles of autoand cross-bispectra of the detected signals. It is expected t...

Approximating the Distributions of Singular Quadratic Expressions and their Ratios

Noncentral indefinite quadratic expressions in possibly non- singular normal vectors are represented in terms of the difference of two positive definite quadratic forms and an independently distributed linear combination of standard normal random variables. This result also ap- plies to quadratic forms in singular normal vectors for which no general representation is currently available. The ...
